Requirement for an Inspector

  • CERTIFIED ELECTRICAL WIRING INSPECTORS (CEWI)

    Who is a CEWI?

    A Certified Electrical Wiring Inspector (CEWI) is a person certified by the Energy Commission to

    • inspect
    • test
    • audit
    • and recommend corrective measures;

    For internal electrical wiring of new and existing facilities in accordance with the Electrical Wiring Regulations, 2011 (L.I.2008) and Ghana Standards GS 1009.

    How Do I Qualify for the CEWI Interview?

    One must possess any of the following before applying for the Interview.
    • At least an HND in Electrical / Electronic Engineering
    • Must have been practicing as a Certified Electrical Wiring Professional (CEWP) for at least five (5) years.

    What Should I Know Before Registering for the Interview?

    • Applicants are required to study the following documents:
      • Ghana Electrical Wiring Certification Syllabus
      • Ghana Electrical Wiring Regulations 2011, L.I.2008
      • Ghana Standards GS 1009. Copies are available at: (The Ghana Publishing Company (Assembly Press), Located at Tudu before the Accra Technical University.)
    • Applicants must be abreast with standardized inspection and testing practices with respect to internal wiring of domestic, commercial and industrial facilities.
    • Applicants must be familiar with electrical safety principles, procedures, and requirements in relation to:
      • Inspection of internal electrical wiring of facilities.
      • Testing of internal electrical wiring of facilities. (Required internal electrical wiring tests, acceptable results and interpretation).
    • Applicants must own personal protective equipment (PPEs) and provide proof of access to electrical tools and instruments used for inspection and testing.
    • Applicants must be conversant with general electrical wiring and engineering knowledge.
  • CERTIFIED ELECTRICAL WIRING PROFESSIONAL - INSPECTORS (CEWP-I)

    Who is a CEWP-I?

    A Certified Electrical Wiring Professional - Inspector (CEWP-I) is a CEWP certified by the Energy Commission to

    • inspect
    • test
    • and recommend corrective measures

    For internal electrical wiring of new facilities for electricity service connections in accordance with the Electrical Wiring Regulations, 2011 (L.I.2008) and Ghana Standards GS 1009.

    How Do I Qualify for the CEWP-I Interview?

    One must have been practicing as a Certified Electrical Wiring Professional (CEWP).

    What Should I Know Before Registering for the Interview?

    • Applicants are required to study the following documents:
      • Ghana Electrical Wiring Certification Syllabus
      • Electrical Wiring Regulations 2011, L.I.2008

    • Applicants must own personal protective equipment (PPEs) and provide proof of access to electrical tools and instruments used for inspection and testing.
    • Applicants must be conversant with general electrical wiring and engineering knowledge.
